Dear Scholarship Applicant: The women of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, Theta Chi Omega Chapter are pleased to offer scholarships to high school students residing and attending a school within Kent County public school districts who demonstrate academic excellence and perform community service projects in our area. The scholarship offer is also extended to college students with a Michigan residence, but attending any college or university. We invite eligible students to complete the following application and submit it using the online form on our website (preferred) or by email to [email protected] no later than Sunday, April 7th, 2024, by 11:59 pm.                                  


Levels of Awards:
  • High School Students 9-12: Tuition support of $250 minimum for summer academic, music, technology, arts, educational travel programs/camps
  • Graduating High School Seniors: $1,500 minimum
  • College Students: $1,500 minimum

Eligibility
  • 9-12th grade students residing in and attending a Kent County public school district. (*Students who attend private, specialty, or charter schools in these public school districts are eligible to apply.)
  • 2.75 cumulative GPA
  • Evidence of contribution to the school/community
  • Acceptance to a tuition-based academic/arts/travel summer program (9th-11th grade); Acceptance to a 2-year, 4-year college ​or university or career and technical education program (graduating senior) 
  • College applicants must submit a Fall 2024 semester schedule (full time status as defined by the attending college/university), and a current transcript indicating a minimum 3.0 GPA

  • Typed Completed Application (application automatically adds your text)
  • High School Transcript/ College transcript (electronic or officially sealed)
  • A copy of your acceptance to higher education institution/summer academic or arts program brochure (high school)
  • A copy of your Fall 2024 course schedule (full time status as defined by the attending college/university)
  • Current resume (college applicants only)
  • Attach or email a digital or color photo to [email protected]
  • A typed essay of no more than 750 words that addresses the following topic:

Those who are able to productively manage the demands and circumstances that life can bring, typically have adopted some philosophy, strategies, or habits that drive their emotional and mental toughness. The lessons we take from obstacles we encounter can be fundamental to later success. Recount a time when you faced a challenge, setback, or failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience?
