Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® – Theta Chi Omega: A Legacy of Service and Sisterhood

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® (AKA) stands as a historic and impactful international service organization — the first Greek-letter sorority established by African American college-educated women. Founded on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C., in 1908, AKA has grown into a global sisterhood dedicated to scholarship, leadership, and “Service to All Mankind.”
The Theta Chi Omega Chapter, chartered in 1969 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, carries forward this esteemed legacy with purpose and passion. Over 50 years later, this chapter remains a vibrant community of more than 100 college-educated women committed to uplifting and empowering their local community. Guided by the international leadership and the 2022–2026 theme, Soaring to Greater Heights of Service and Sisterhood, Theta Chi Omega continues to create meaningful impact through service initiatives, civic engagement, and advocacy.
Theta Chi Omega embodies AKA’s foundational mission — cultivating high scholastic and ethical standards, promoting unity and friendship, addressing pressing social issues affecting girls and women, and maintaining progressive involvement in both educational and community life. Whether through tree plantings, voter education events, community health drives, or youth mentorship programs, the chapter’s work reflects its commitment to positive change.
For the women of Theta Chi Omega, sisterhood isn’t just about bonds forged in friendship — it’s about active stewardship, thoughtful leadership, and lasting community transformation. Their dedication to service continues to honor the founders’ vision of a better world through collective effort and compassionate leadership
